One of the most intense screens in Good Will Hunting is near the end when Sean after discusing Will’s past and both of their experiences with child abuse and Sean says to Will ‘It 's not your fault’. Will’s response to this to just to shrug it off and say ‘yeah I know’. But Sean keeps pushing will and keeps repeating this until Will breaks down in tears. One of the symptoms of PTSD as discussed earlier is distorted blame of oneself. It seems that Will deep down still blames himself for the physical abuse he received even though he logical knows he shouldn’t. Will has repressed and pushed out these feeling of guilt. Contrast this with someone like Professor Gerald Lambaue who clealy has had a good life with the opertunites to go to university and acsess there. Gerald has an amazing mind but it is no where near as impressive as Will’s. Not only this but Geraldopenly admits that he hates that he knows someone as intelligent as Will exists.
