In Alabama, Colorado, District of Columbia and many other states, for instance, the penalties for physical child abuse would be up to ten years. In some states like Alaska and Maine, the penalties are not harsh as Alabama, but they would still be several years. The perpetrators' offenses are easy to recognize and could easily get harsh punishment (Norman). Yet, the punishment for the perpetrators of verbal abuse, emotional abuse and neglect are not as tough as the physical abuse. Although the identities of the abuser are easier to know, the perpetrators and the primary carers are usually the same people. Therefore, the children would not receive any protection from their guardians. Also, it is hard to recognize what is the real cause of the children's aggressive behavior. In most cases, the parents would be the ones to represent their children; they could assert that their children's aggressive behaviors are caused by drugs instead of their mentally abuse behavior. To prevent children from being psychological abused, people who witnessed metal child abuse could contact doctors or psychologist for the children, they can also send the children to the relevant organizations or religious groups. Parents of the children, wanting to make sure that they are not mental abusing their children, should know that they need to apologize to their children when they lose their temper; they should not attach labels to their children; they need to use appropriate discipline techniques to correct their children's behavior; they should compliment their children even their children only succeed in finishing one task
