This document is referred to as a proposal paper for the anticipated study titled, “Social, and environmental risks in Albertine region, Uganda as a result of oil and gas exploration, drilling and extraction “. Currently, there are approximately 500 oil establishments that partake in African hydrocarbon exploration. Referring to figures from the US EIA, Africa’s confirmed oil reserves have increased by nearly 120% in the past 30 years, from 57 billion barrels in 1980 to 124 billion barrels in 2012. In addition, it is estimated that an additional 100 100 billion barrels of oil will be produced in Africa in the immediate future. In Uganda, the country has had massive discoveries, with the original discovery of a large reserve of oil dating back to 2006. The country oil reserves are estimated at 3.5 billion barrels of crude oil which have attracted substantial investment by Tullow Oil, CNOOC and Total oil companies.
