“People exercising just 15 minutes per day have a 14% lower mortality risk than those who do not exercise and increase their life expectancy by three years,” stated Theresa Bebbington in WebMD Health News. Upwards of 300,000 deaths are linked to obesity or being overweight per year. Obesity is now the second leading cause of death that can be prevented in the United States. Exercising can reduce the risk of health problems and even death later in life. From lifting weights to aerobic exercise, such as running and jumping rope, health improves all throughout the body. Self-esteem of people who exercise is higher than those who do not. According to Townsend, people who exercise have higher self-esteem because they view their body image in a positive way (citation). This is due to the changing of their body because of exercise that results in a leaner, better looking body. Once people see these changes occurring, they tend to stick with the exercise program and dieting that have brought these changes. Townsend also stated, “Having a high self-esteem helps to reach goals faster and stay on track with diets and workouts more often than people with lower self-esteem,” (citation). Lifting weights has been proven through testing that it lowers anxiety levels, aerobic exercises have been proven to increase positivity, and tai chi improves an individual’s self-worth (citation). When lifting weights, every time weights are added, a sense of capability comes over which lowers anxiety. Aerobic exercises clear the mind of thoughts and release endorphins that result in positivity. Tai chi was reported to increase confidence which came from self-satisfaction and being more physically fit. Since people stick to these programs, they change dieting and exercising into a lifestyle that brings the body these people imagined …show more content…
Exercising too often can lead to many problems mentally and physically. Mental problems that can arise are symptoms that mimic depression, fatigue, and even elevated heart rate and blood pressure. The symptoms that mimic depression are linked to over stressing the body. Stress hormones are released when the body is physically overwhelmed. These hormones that are released when the body is over stressed are the same as the emotional stress hormones that cause depression and anxiety disorders (citation). Overtraining leads to fatigue mentally and physically. Fatigue is a sign from the body that rest is needed. While people exercise to get rid of high blood pressure, overtraining leads to the exact opposite effect. Instead of lowering blood pressure and heart rate, overtraining puts even more stress on the heart which spikes blood pressure and results in a higher heart rate even while resting (citation). Other problems that can arise through exercising result from performing the exercise incorrectly. These problems consist on joint discomfort, back problems, constantly aching muscles, and inflammation. Joint discomfort arises from bad form while exercising. Knees and elbows are the two most commonly injured joints while exercising (citation). Squatting with heavy weight is among the top exercises that injure joints without proper

Summary: Scientist advocate that individuals can exercise too strenuously and thus shorten their life span. Past studies suggest that individuals who walk briskly and cyclists who bike more vigorously for longer periods of time have longer life spans than those who stroll or cycle slowly. These studies, however, did not determine how much exercise was too much. In a study of 1,098 joggers, it was found that those who jogged at a slow pace, between 1 and 2.4 hours per week, had longer life spans. In contrast, those who jogged more often at a much faster pace had decreased life spans equal to that of sedentary non-joggers.…

A 2010 study presented at Canadian Cardiovascular Congress in Montreal found that regular exercise reduces cardiovascular risk by a factor of two or three, but the extended vigorous exercise performed during a marathon increases/raises your cardiac risk seven-fold. You can’t feel the heart’s ‘pain’ until very late in the game, and at that point, it could be a life-threatening situation. The heart pumps about five quarts of blood per minute when sitting, when running this increases to twenty-five or thirty quarts; the heart is not designed to do this for hours on end, day after day. The heart can enter a state of ‘volume overload’ that stretches the walls of your heart muscle, literally breaking fibres apart. Problems occur because many endurance…

Exercise compiled with a little bit of commitment to leading a better dietary lifestyle can produce amazing physical results, but more importantly incredible psychological results as well. The phrase, “you look good, you feel good” has been thrown around for years, but in fact there is proof through research that backs this up with direct correlation to exercise.…

Participants that performed vigorous activity up to 30 percent of the time had a reduced mortality risk of 9 percent; participants that performed beyond 30 percent had a reduced mortality risk of 13 percent.…
