The Effects Of Night Terrors On Children

Night terrors also known as sleep terrors are episodes of intense fear, flailing and screaming while the person is sleeping. They are also paired with sleep walking. It is also a sleep disorder in which a person quickly wakes from sleep in a terrified state. Sleepwalking and night terrors are considered a parasomnia, and are a undesired occurrence during sleep. Night terrors are more common in children but they can also affect adults. When an episode occurs it usually lasts from a few seconds to a few minutes, but could last longer.
Night terrors are relatively rare and affect only a small percentage of children. Often affects children between the ages of 4 thru 12 and sometimes adults. The problem usually disappears during childhood.
