When dealing with social movements, society has two options to pursue: de-radicalize the movement by adopting them into society or the exact opposite by radicalizing them more. Sidney Tarrow put it, “actions that begin in the streets [can be] resolved in the halls of government or by the bayonets of the army” (Aslan 143). In the most recent years, the United States has resolved to radicalize the enemy more. We have used military force in retaliation to the threat from the War on Terror. However after thirteen years of troops occupying Afghanistan, it is debatable if military action is the most effective way to abolish the threat of terror. Whilst some argue military force has helped achieve the goals of the U.S, others strongly believe that the war is has caused more damage than good. The only mission it has accomplished was destabilizing a region and allowing the lean way for al-Qaeda and ISIS to flourish.
