First and foremost, violence on the internet are easily obtained anyone can search the web and find anything that is associated or related to violence. According to Waukesha police Chief Russell Jack “unmonitored and unrestricted access to the internet by children is a growing and alarming problem”(Bevan 1). Young children in this generation find it easier to stream on the internet whenever they like. Before the only way to be on the internet was through a desktop computer and even then it took a while to load the information. Now technology is so advance that one does not need a desktop anymore. Streaming the internet has never been so easy in the history of mankind. Young children can search online using phones, tablets, consoles, computers, …show more content…
Parents cannot monitor their children twenty-four hours a day and make sure that they are not watching or reading anything inappropriate for their age. Even though parents might set restrictions on the computer or any other electronic device, the rating on what is appropriate for kids is bias and can still influence the children towards violent crimes. Even though parents set up restrictions on their children computers, to prevent them from watching anything they do not want them to be watching, the internet can still have bad influences towards violent crime. At a young age children learn autonomy, which means knowing right from wrong and could distinguish them apart. So if children are aware of their decision is a bad one, so then why do they still commit these crimes? The reason why is because children only know what they are taught, they are not able to tell the difference between right and wrong without a foundation. It is supposed to be the parents that build the foundation that the child uses to tell them what they should and should not do. But now a day’s most parents are too busy to help their children learn some of the basic rules of society and instead they expects the schools to do this for them. However the schools only have a limited time with the child and can only teach them so little in that time. This cause the child to learn more from their friends than anything else. Because of this children have trouble distinguishing between what is real and what is not. Tom Bevan states “teens and preteens are so enmeshed in the digital age that they’re increasingly having trouble discerning the virtual world from the real one”. What Bevan is trying to say is that now a day’s young teens are spending too much time on the Internet and are not spending enough time living in the real world.
