The Controversy of Intelligence If you had been raised in a different environment, there are people who will say you would be just as intelligent as you are now, but there are also people who will say you would not have the same intelligence. For many years, psychologists have researched where intelligence comes from. Some say your intelligence is from nature. Some say it is from nurture. Others will say it is a combination of the two. The intelligence of a human has always been a controversy between nature, nurture, or a combination of the two. Nature can be an important factor in the intelligence of a person. A study was done that showed evidence of 20 to 40 percent of a person 's intelligence is based on genetics. This data strongly supports intelligence being based on nature (Gayle, 2013, para. 6). If intelligence is based on genetics, then twins will have similar IQ scores. Identical twins would have a near identical IQ score and fraternal twins would have a similar IQ score. With this information, multiple twin studies have been done to investigate if this is true. A study done at King’s College in London, England, looked at the genes of six thousand sets of twins (Williams, 2014, para. 4). This study looked at genes which affect personality, motivation, and confidence. They also looked at genes that have commonly been associated with intelligence (Williams, 2014 para. 1).
