The case I researched into was the David Pelzer case. I have read his books in the past and I found them very intriguing. David 's years growing up were difficult and he had trouble finding his true identity. He often went to different extremes to fit in with kids in his school, and around him. David went to different extremes to impress the other kids around him, simply to just fit in. The stunts and activities he pulled made him feel more superior however there was always someone out to get David. He did not care if he got into trouble with the law, or even his step parents. David went to these extremes because deep down he was confused about the person he was turning into, and caused him to take different roles in society, and they were not always good. According to Erikson, he argues that adolescents attempt to determine their strengths and weaknesses. The positions best suit their future lives. Some of the things I read I could not believe. Nothing makes feel as sick to my stomach as all of the abuse that went on and the different extremes David’s mother went to. She deprived him of a normal childhood, stole his innocence and did everything to make his life the worst possible it could be. David’s mother was mad at the everything in the world and felt taking it all out on David was the only solution.
