History of the Problem
Over the years homework continues to be a major controversial issue throughout schools. Homework impacts students both in positive and negative ways. Being bombarded with hours of homework takes away most of the time students need to live a healthy teenage life. Even though it has been proven that homework helps improve grades it also wears away at the motivation and patience the students have to do it. It definitely is negatively impacting high schoolers, causing them to be more stressed out then they already are. It has been proven that schoolwork and homework is the leading cause of stress in students. The older the student is also impacts the amount of homework, “This one is fairly obvious: The National Education Association recommends that homework time increase by ten minutes per year in school. (e.g., A third grader would have 30 minutes of homework, while a seventh grader would have 70 minutes)” (Ryan). Chinese students have it even worse than American students, ““Today’s tension echoes this back and forth. “The Chinese do six hours of homework before breakfast”” (Gonchar). Students become more stressed out with the more homework they are assigned, that is added on top of stress from parents. Most high school students are drilled with the stress of needing a job, finding a college, and thinking about what they want to be when they are older. Having a job when being in high school is pretty important, it helps students become more independent…
