To have a healthy relationship with someone doesn 't always mean you 're dating. Healthy relationships are important with friends, family, and romantic partners. In all of these types of relationships you need boundaries, and communication but, in a romantic relationship you need trust. You need trust in a relationship because without trust you begin to develop jealous behaviors with lead into forms of abuse.Without these three things in a romantic relationship the relationship can become very unhealthy. It can reach a point where you are being abused. There are three types of abuse. Mental, Physical, and Emotional abuse. You can experience all three of these or one. Females between the ages of 16 and 24 are three times more likely to be a victim of one of these types of abuse (www dosomething.org). Women are not the only ones susceptible to abuse, men are also victims. Abuse can affect a person in different ways. Teens are more likely to get abused. …show more content…
Mental abuse is a person subjecting or exposing another to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression, or posttraumatic stress disorder (aifs.gov). Mental abuse is categorized in two categories harsh and subtle. The harsh forms of abuse are intimidation, threats of self harm or harming others, destruction, and isolation. Subtle forms of mental abuse are tactics, insults, and putdowns. The after effects of mental abuse very by the length and type of abuse either harsh or subtle.
