“To help save Africa” is an embarrassingly vague phrase used when people are giving aid, and most of the time this causes the aid to be used for a cause the government thinks will be useful. The aid money should benefit Africa, but instead they put the money into a cause that would not benefit the majority of the population such as paving roads, seeing most Africans do not have vehicles. But it could, provided the present way was tweaked to be beneficial to the continent. Right now, Africa is not showing any signs of development because they are stuck in a vicious cycle. A dilemma that Africa is faced with is the impersonal and corrupt factors of the aid it is given. Aid needs to be changed significantly to help Africa get on their feet and to begin to be a profitable continent. Aid is a vital source of revenue for a developing continent like Africa. They are not developing well enough to have sufficient revenues from their economy, so they depend on foreign aid. Africa needs a democratic government that is fair and will make appropriate decisions for the foreign aid money collected, and dedicate it to a specific cause. Debt repayment needs to be eliminated to give the continent the chance to develop. To replace giving large sums of money to African government, the aid should be given in small yet sizable increments, but Africa needs to lack the “Samaritans Dilemma” and put forth an honest effort, or the development attempts will fail. Lastly it the government and the foreign aid donors should partner together to decide where the aid would be most appropriate to go.
