Essay On Drugs In The Military

Since 1999, there has been over 17,000 people that have been discharged from our U.S. Military from the resort of drugs. There has also been an increase in failed drug tests in the U.S. Air force by 82% and within the U.S. army 37%. Our Navy has discharged more people than any other branches of the armed forces from the resort of drug use during this time.There was 3,400 discharged just within the Navy due to drugs. The most known reasons for using drugs in the Military are from stress, Access, in activity, alertness. With stress our soldiers have resorted to drugs due to them serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and constantly under fire by the enemy they deal with stress everyday on the battlefield some of these drugs are as a means of self medication.

Many times there are not enough care the US Department of Defense and Veteran Affairs. The veterans suicides and high unemployment rates by paying the price of the “ high rates” of military sexual assault there all issues have draw attention by congressional. During 2010 there was half of all the 300 military suicides were done by those who had deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts that are reported. According to a VA reporter it is said that 22 Veterans take their own lives every day .It is also said that up to one in five suffer from PTSD while a very close number have mild traumatic brain injuries. some of them have overlapping health conditions, Most commonly known as PTSD, substance disorders, Depression and symptoms similar to mild TBI. The unemployment rate within our veterans aged 18 to 24 was over 30%, compared to 16% for civilians. Most veterans do not have any problems but for those who do the Department of Defense do not implement changes fast
