Welfare is basically financial support given to people in need. Helping people that are in need can cost money because nobody knows what they are using their check on. Many individuals do not agree with the kind of action mainly because they could be the ones that do get welfare and abuse it with drugs. For starters, the Unites States has always been at war with drugs. With having drug test effective it will decrease the amount of drugs that have been in and out of the nation. First of all, doing away with drugs will eliminate the number or drug abusers that are on welfare meaning the state will only receive less money. There is a war on drugs and drug testing can decrease the use of drugs and lead these people into the right path. Many jobs require drug tests therefore those who apply for welfare should as well (Brown). These laws of drug testing are based on suspicious looks. The agency must have a reason to drug test those who are on welfare or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). Drug testing started with three states and later spread to others however most of these arrangements obstructed. Companies that drug test their employees before hiring them started questions the law. They get drug tested while people on welfare do not which is not fair because both a job and being on welfare is under the government’s control. In most states they have a form that people that are applying for welfare need to fill out. Based on the applicant’s answers, that will determine whether they are a drug abuser. The people that are involved with abusing welfare are the ones that are drug addicts. The cause of the government drug testing is the fact that many applicants are trying to get money for drugs.
