Discrimination proves to be a substantial problem in the workplace and everyday life for those suffering either mental or physical disabilities. Given that suffering from debilitating illness and the costs medically are severe enough, receiving income can be detrimental to having medical care and taking care of their families. The toughest concept for the majority is the consideration of mental disabilities because mental health still seems to be a taboo subject. According to the EEOC, there are laws in place to prevent discrimination by mental or physical disability for recruitment, hiring, transferring, dismissal, discipline, work conditions, promotions, training, advertisement, retirement, assignment, or performance evaluations. It can be difficult to decipher where certain people could be considered a part of this rule, countless can fall victim to unqualification.
In 1990, President George H.W. Bush created the Disability Discrimination Act, which made it illegal for employers to reject potential employees a job for reason of physical or mental disability. However, this does not enable just anyone to be considered disabled; there are specific requirements that individuals need to meet to be considered a part of this act.
