Superior Essays
In our class, we held an experiment to see the effects of different messages in respect to prosocial giving. In our experiment, we partnered with an organization called the Kid 's Food Basket to help kids in need. We asked three volunteers pledge to draw a picture on the number of brown paper bags of their choosing. After pledging a certain amount, we then provided them with the correct amount of bags and after a period of time, collected the decorated bags and gave them back to Kid 's Food Basket. These decorated bags got filled with food and went to poverty stricken kids who got free or reduced meal lunches and dinners. Each person we asked got a different message that described what we were doing with the bags and what their role was …show more content…
We failed to find any data to support our hypothesis because there were no statistically different values or results. In addition, all the messages were the same because we did not find any statistically significant data or results. Further tests could have been done with an increased sample size that could possibly yield at statistically significant p-value.
By modifying the messages for future tests, we could be able to increase the statistical significance of the results. We could create a very bland message with all the writing the same size black and white, boring font, then we could create a colorful message with different fonts and font sizes that is appealing to the eye. It is possible that with these changes by making the messages a little bit more different and extreme, we could create a statistically significant response. It would also be helpful to increase the sample size. Another way we could reshape the experiment to get more results would be too add in a proverb saying or Bible verse to target a person 's desire to serve others for a bigger purpose. A third way we could modify the experiment would be to make a commitment that for everyone one bag they decorate, the experimenters would also decorate a

When it was still in operation, one of my favorite treats was to sit outside at Alice Waters' Cafe Fanny and eat beignets with jam while my mom drank Cafe Au Lait. Growing up in a food-centric place made Alice Waters and her farm-to-table movement common knowledge to me. I imagine myself sitting with Alice at Cafe Fanny asking questions about her life as an activist. I wonder how Alice knew how to turn her passion for food justice into action.…

Why is it difficult to draw a conclusion from an experiment that does not have a control group? It is difficult to draw a conclusion from an experiment that does not have a control group, because it leaves more possibilities about what could have actually occurred during the experiment. This means that you may think you are right, but because you did not have a control group to eliminate extra possibilities there is actually a different solution to your problem and your solution is false.…

For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…
