There are a variety of negatives and positives of having been decisive for as long as I can remember. Having this decisiveness trait has helped me be sure of myself and has caused little self-doubt. I know that once I make up my mind I can begin to work my way to the goals I have set for myself and that will help me in the long run. As a negative, when I have become decisive about something, such as what food I like, it closes my mind to other possibilities. I closed my eyes to types of food such as cooked carrots all because I made up my mind about hating them when I was a child. I have never wasted time pointlessly going back and forth on any type of debate. I am able to look at the facts and recall my personal values and be able to make a decisive decision that I can be comfortable with. Being a decisive as a child, as previously stated, can close anyone off to experiencing new things. For example, deciding that I wanted to only be an athlete shut me off to participating in any types of arts. I never learned how to paint, act, sing, or play an instrument which could have possibly changed my mind on being a full time athlete. Even though that can be seen as a negative, it is a positive in some senses as well. As someone who is decisive it wasn’t as hard for me to choose which college I was going to attend. I was able to look at the options quickly and narrow down what I wanted and have a list of must haves, mostly pertaining to financial aid, and when a school met a majority of those qualifications it was easier to be decisive. Even though a majority of the decisions need a certain amount of information and facts to help the person decide, it doesn’t mean that they still aren’t decisive. They can be decisive and still be able to look rationally at all of the options (Adams, 2005). Being decisive now has lots of benefits when it comes to imagining out what I want for my life and how I am going to work to achieve it. Being decisive is a prominent part of who I am and helps me be a better leader whether it comes to the work aspects of my life or the tennis aspects. I am able to make decisions on ordering
