The Effects of Daycare on Children’s Development
Today’s children are tomorrow’s future. Therefore, how a child develops is not only important to the child, but also to our society as a whole. While realizing this factor, we come to the discussion of whether daycare helps a child to develop or is harmful to a child’s development. Despite some evidence that daycare can be harmful to a child’s development, many recent studies show that daycare for babies and young children has positive effects on cognitive abilities, social behavior, and language development. Daycare is a positive option for any parent wishing to prepare their child for school and their future.

With this being said, it is important to remember that language development is also essential to the development of one’s ability to read, write, and communicate. Knowing this, daycare caregivers focus on the ways in which they communicate to the children. “The findings of the present study revealed that, as a group, the caregivers used linguistic structures that have been suggested to facilitate language acquisition, such as declarative sentences, wh- questions, and yes/no questions, albeit with differences in their proportionate use of the structures” (Rhyner, 2007, p. 174). Although each daycare provider has a different way of teaching, the general way in which a daycare provider speaks to and questions the children results in the children’s heightened development of language. “Additional similarities across the caregivers were the relatively high use of compound/complex sentences and the infrequent use of choice questions during book sharing with the children” (Rhyner, 2007, p. 174). The ways in which one speaks to a child does in turn effect the way in which the child develops their language skills. In her article An analysis of child caregivers’ language during book sharing with toddler-age children, Paula Rhyner quotes Katherine Nelson by stating that “It has been suggested that adult language that is slightly more complex than …show more content…

Daycare When running a daycare for children two-years-old and under, many considerations must be made in order to provide the appropriate experiences to help promote their biological, cognitive and psychosocial development. One of my primary goals would be to maintain a group of staff members that I have ensured are reliable, extremely trustworthy and planned on working for me for at least a year or two. I would want to help maintain a constant environment for the zero to two-year-olds. Children who are two-years-old need very different care then one-year-olds or kids who are even younger. As they got closer to two and above, I would make sure they were being read to daily and being exposed to memory exercises, for example, identifying animals and basic shapes, while still being provide with an adequate amount of…

The first observation I did was at the Esmelda daycare, this daycare is a family daycare there the woman and husband showed me what they did every day they said that the toddler had hours for everything like what time they eat, how much time they had to play. Esmelda daycare promote language through play time she has book that help the toddlers learn the different animal or the ABC the woman would read the book to toddler by pointing to animal or letter and saying what it was she would also promote language by playing with the toys like counting how many Lego blocks there is or by saying the color of the toy right now. Esmelda daycare is not fully completed with all the material the toddlers need they are in process, but still not being a fully completed daycare you can see that the women and the husband take really good care of children when I was there as she was taking to me if the children need something she would stop and put attention to what the children need instead of just keep taking to me and ignored the child. Compare to the second observation did where each children age group has his own in Esmelda daycare see has all the children together he also has the toy room apart where they just go play when is play time and can’t go in until is play time again.…

Day care is only there for help. It should not affect your relationship with your child. From reading this chapter I’ve learned that most studies show no correlation between negative developmental effects or harmful effects on a child’s attachment to their parents. But studies do show that low quality daycare and attachment problems can take a toll on a child. As long as you form a healthy relationship with your child and remain consistent with this and get your child in the best daycare program possible you will not see any negative developmental or attachment problems due to daycare.…

Today, non-parental care is showing to be a great alternative for many parents who require time from home in order to attend school or go to work. I support a center based childcare because it gives the child to interact with other children of their age and communicating with other children is so important when the child is young. Children who are around other children their age can learn and grow from one another. Children who are not socialized in the early years of their development will grow up lack skills to meet new faces and develop friendship and will tend to be shy unlike children who socialized during their tender ages (Bojczyk, Shriner & Shriner, 2012).…

Two types of daycare are family daycare and center daycare. Family daycare is provided for a small group of children in the home of a non-parental relative or non-relative. Although typically less expensive than center daycare and potential offering positive impacts in similar ways to “stay-at-home parents” (if the care provider is loving and attentive), family daycare also has disadvantages. Children of various ages are oftentimes grouped together, so activities may not be developmentally appropriate for all represented ages, especially if there is only one caregiver. This can also result in less one-on-one attention, particularly in light of higher caregiver-to-child ratios and the lack of enforcing regulations of childcare standards (Phillips & Adams,…
