Currently in the US, there is about 900,000 sworn-in police officers.(…) Certain ethnics looks at police officers as enemies. They think that all police officers do wrong intentionally. One of the many reason society today think the way they do is because of the media. The media bring attention to the bad that was done not always the good. Despite what is going on in America not all police officers are bad. Many police officers have made a huge impact on the community by doing community awareness. Police officers are bringing attention to community outreach to help build relationships with youth and adults, increase community police academies and prevent crimes. One way policer officers differ from the other officers is that they are bringing more attention to community outreach. Per the article “Community Outreach Community” a community outreach is the practice of offering support to community members. (Murray) Police Officers are using community outreach programs to reach and engage more with the community members. In one city, community outreach programs are geared to the youth and adults. As reported by Seattle.gov the seattle police officers participate in numerous programs and services to build connections with their youth. (Murray) There are three specific programs that the Seattle Police Officers host. The first one is role reversals/ youth dialogues. With this program the youth and police officers sit down and have an open dialogue conversations. This helps the youth to be open and honest about the preconceived notions of each other. According to Seattle.gov, this program helps to join the gap between the police officers and the youth by helping educating on the law enforcement. The targeted age group was between thirteen and twenty-one. This particular program allows the youth to get participate in the following events: security work, directing traffic at events and helping with crime prevention programs. The third program is the Seattle youth violence prevention [iniative]. This program goes into the community and schools to help prevent youth and gang- related violence. SYVPI extends help to those who were in detention programs, arrested for crimes. (Murray) The SYVPI offer two different services the first service is the School Emphasis Officers and Late night hour programs. The School Emphasis Officers focus on preventing violence in the elementary, middle and high school. The Emphasis Officers also focus on gang- violence and the suspension reductions. The Late-Night Hour Programs, on the other hand, focuses more on building recreational centers for the youth. (Murray) By the officers building recreational centers it shows the youth that the officers care for them. This act of kindness shows that although the officers want them to stay out of trouble, they also would like for the youth to have a safe environment to have fun. Also, this gives youth chances to get used to officers and become comfortable around
