Twelve of the hottest years recorded on Earth have come with in the last fifteen years. A staggering fact like that needs to not be ignored. Today in the United States of America there is great a divide amongst the population when it comes to Global Warming. One in four Americans thinks Global warming isn’t happening (Climate Change In The American Mind). This is mind-blowing since 97 percent of publishing climate scientist agree that human activity has affected the Earth’s climate they also agree that we are seeing the effects of climate change now (Climate Change In The American Mind). We as humans have a moral obligation to take care of the only Earth we have. We owe it to future generations to leave them a planet that will not only …show more content…
It’s amazing how we can be so divided and let a label scare us. If you align yourself with the people who think the government needs to step in and lead by example and start passing tougher laws when it comes to green house gases you might be labeled a liberal. On the other hand if you want to argue that the earth’s climate has been changing since day one and our role in the way we alter it is a minimal one you might be labeled a conservative. It’s very sensitive subject that has been altered by politics. The science is there yet people would rather take the word of their favorite congressmen who is more than likely on the take anyways. Right away people argue that too many regulations is bad and that we should just let companies be. Caring about the planet these days seems to be attributed to being a hippie and nobody wants to be that. One of the main reasons the US has so much carbon pollution is because of the way that we harness energy. Our power plants are the largest source of emissions in the US. They account for around one third of all of our greenhouse gas emissions. The US has set limits for other toxins but there is no federal law on the books that stops power plants from emitting as much carbon pollution as they

The Importance of Life Life is an incredible thing and can be found in countless different shapes, sizes, and forms. But no matter what form life takes, it always has one characteristic that never changes, and that is it’s always important and is always discussed in the highest regards. In two articles from the Coyote Reader, “To Really Save the planet, Stop Going Green by Mike Tidwell”, and “Topic of Cancer” by Christopher Hitchens, the idea that life is important is exemplified and explained through two very different scenarios. By looking at these two articles, one talking about saving the environment and the effects that will happen if it is not saved, and one talking about a man trying to save his life from the devastating effects of…

Teddy Willcocks Y1 Civics Ms. Marshall Essay Climate change affects everybody and everything all over the world and is impacting how we live our lives. Around the world, we need to tackle the issues of climate change and alter the way we consume and dispose of resources. The pollution we create from factories and vehicles goes up into our atmosphere and creates a barrier of greenhouse gas. When the sun 's rays come to earth and then radiate back out to space, they can’t go back because of the one way, very thick greenhouse gas barrier. The 20 warmest years ever have happened since 1981 and with 10 of the warmest happening within the past 12 years and this is continuing to get worse as the years go on.…

Canada is still behind other developed countries when it comes to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions it has reduced. While other developed countries are decreasing its emissions, Canada's is climbing. As global emissions are increasing, the decisions that countries make now about climate change are crucial and critical. I believe climate change needs to be dealt with immediately because first, the effect it has on the economy. Climate change is primarily caused by the greenhouse effect being enhanced by human activities, which alters the temperature of the planet; causing an increase in intense rainfall events, heat waves and droughts, a rise in sea level, and increasing the number of hot days and nights by warming the planet.…

The first stride that the EPA has taken is aimed at power plants. Most are familiar with power plants and a common image that comes to mind when thought of is large stacks with smoke pluming into the air. People also may think of cities that have large amounts of power plants to have haze in the air causing difficult breathing and disease. According to Doniger, “ completed by the Environmental Protection Agency in August, the clean power act will cut carbon pollution from our power plants - the nation's biggest emitters - by nearly a third by 2030 from 2005 levels. It will accelerate the shift from the old and dirty power system of the past to a clean energy future driven by economical wind and solar power and energy efficiency (Doniger).”…

State governments believe that the national government can’t control them or industries/companies, it’s all part of their choice as an American citizen or company (Wong 1) (Mufson 1) (Clean Power Plan:... -Today’s Science). The combustion of coal causes plenty of carbon dioxide to be produced, and on a large-scale is dangerous to the atmosphere. With states and companies denying to cooperate with the Cap-and-Trade act, scientists don’t have real poles or numbers to base their predictions of greenhouse gases being…

Imagine a barren wasteland, incapable of supporting the growth of any form of life and overpopulated with more people than it could sustain: this is the future of the earth. But, this is not just another scene from a sci-fi film of a population that has expedited their vital resources, but the reality for the “over 7 billion people” who populate the home we call earth (Hardaway 4). A considerable amount of blame is placed on global warming which is an “increase in the temperature of the lower atmosphere“; however, global warming has not garnered enough acceptance from some political officials and skeptics due to the term’s ambiguity (“global warming”). Global warming is often confused with climate change and although these terms sound alike…

For the past 35 years, countries around the globe have dedicated billions of dollars to research on ways to prevent, remedy, and demolish global warming and other detriments to the earth’s atmosphere. It is predicted that Canada will face a number of serious problems due to global warming, but at the same time, there are some extremely beneficial effects of this warming that will be good. The Canadian government is well aware of the impacts of global warming on Canada, but for the most part seems to focus its efforts on improving the economy and little on reducing our emissions that are contributing to climate change.…

People are deciding what to purchase, who they will be purchasing for, and what amount they will be spending; more emphasis on the former than the latter. Manufacturers have increased production to accommodate the purchases. Retailers, online and brick and mortar, have stocked their shelves, increased staff and extended store hours in hopes of being the place the consumers will go to purchase those must haves. Climate change is something that many people do not think about on a day to day basis, and for Americans climate change is a back burner topic that rarely is brought up in conversation. The lack of common knowledge by people is both negligent on their end and on the organizations that promote information on climate change. The largest problems with climate change are: lack of knowledge by individuals, lack of participation by governments to collaborate and share information, and the unwillingness to change the ways that a person lives. One issue that effects minds on climate change is society in America has influenced the minds of people to think that climate change is something that is way into the future and has no affect on them in their lifetime. While analyzing historical texts, one should always proceed with caution, and read tentatively; specifically, due to misinterpretations, false translations, and basic human error, verbal speeches delivered in previous centuries tend to succumb to inaccuracies, which leads to false transcripts of the actual work. Despite this, one can still appreciate the words of Chief Seattle, the Native American chieftain of the Suquamish tribe, in his speech Address, which was presented to the European settlers in America circa 1854. In his speech, Chief Seattle presents his beliefs concerning the white settlers wishing to purchase his tribe’s land in order to create modern cities and European infrastructure. In return for access to their land, the settlers…
