There was a certain topic that I felt I wanted to do more research on. We have touched child abuse slightly within the text. It is something that I went through, and I feel strongly about. By definition child abuse is wide spread and can occur in any cultural, ethnic, and income groups. Child abuse can be physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual. It can also result from neglect. Abuse can result in serious injury to the child and possibly death. Child abuse can occur in household that suffer from alcoholism, anger issues, and substance abuse.
Studies have shown that approximately one in twenty children are physically abused each year. That to me is an extremely frightening number. You go into a single classroom in a school and there is approximately eighteen to twenty-five students that would mean by statistics there is at least one child in that classroom that is being abused. Physical abuse involves harming a child, by but not limited to burning, beating, break of their bones. Child sexual abuse is a deliberate exposure of a minor child to sexual activity that the child cannot comprehend or consent to. Abuse by neglect happens when someone does not provide the necessities of life for the child. This is done either intentionally or with reckless disregard of a child’s well-being.
Growing up I suffered from physical abuse. My father was an abusive alcoholic. My mother and I suffered from this for years. It was a terrifying situation. There were times when we would leave our…
