In today’s society cell phones have become a way of life for most Canadians. The big question is has this new way of life impacted us in a more positive or negative manner? It is my opinion that cell phones have an overall negative impacted on our lives which outweigh the few positive aspects they contribute. Let’s take a deeper look into some of the ways cell phones have caused a negative effect on Canadian lives.
The next time you are in a crowded public place, take a moment to stop and look around at people. What are they doing? I’m willing to bet money that ¾ of them have a cell phone in their hand. This seems to have become the new “normal” for our society. People have become overly obsessed with these tiny devices, and almost can’t function or become lost when they don’t have it with them.

They are affecting our experiences in a negative manner. Have you ever been out at a concert with a friend for example, and while you’re watching and engaging in the performance on stage your friend is snapping selfies, crowd pictures, and videos then immediately posting them to Facebook. That person is more engaged in what they are doing on their phone rather than enjoying the concert. They may be in the same place at the same time but aren’t experiencing it together all because of a cell phone.
Our Intelligence is slowly deteriorating and I believe it’s greatly due to the overuse of cell phones. Texting has taken over and short forms and abbreviations have replaced correct spelling and proper grammar. Even though technology is supposed to make us smarter and build our future, it seems cell phone technology is actually making our society take steps backwards and making us lazy and complacent in forgetting everything we have
