There 's always that memory of drinking from the water hose during the summer, but was a cold bottle of water safer? Another chemical that is most used and talked about in tap water is Fluoride. E.P.A (The Environmental Protection Agency) defines fluoride as toxic waste product from aluminum processing, uranium processing, and fertilizer manufacture. Fluoride was even used as a poison by the Nazi 's. Charles Perkins explains how fluoride was used as a poison, "Repeated doses of infinitesimal amounts of fluoride will in time reduce an individual 's power to resist domination, by slowly poisoning and narcotizing a certain area of the brain, thus making him submissive to the will of those who wish to govern him ( qtd. in Corriheri) ". Not only is there fluoride, but there 's more than just chemicals in tap water. Researcher, Mona Hanna, includes in her article, "Bacteria, including Escherichia coli, were detected in the distribution system, resulting in Safe Drinking Water Act violation. Bottled water is better but not for all the good reasons. Financially, bottled water is cheaper than tap water. Cases are provided at wholesale stores for discounted prices. This comes in handy when a natural disaster or a spillage occurs and tap water has been contaminated or not accessible. Chemicals are bad, but there aren 't as many as there is in tap water. Bottled water also goes through a lengthier process to be cleaned. The International Bottled Water Association states, " Measures in a multi-barrier approach may include one or more of the following: reverse osmosis, distillation, micro-filtration, carbon filtration, ozonation, and ultraviolet (UV) light" (IBWA). Because of this, tap water has twice as many chemicals than bottled water. Unlike tap water, bottled water comes with a label that shows the which chemicals are in the water even if it may not be all of them. For tap water, it takes testing to find out which chemicals are in it, or a public announcement such as the big event in Flint,

The documentary “Tapped” sheds some light on the dangers of bottled water. One of my favorite points the documentary talks about is how the thousands and thousands of plastic water bottles are affecting us and our world. Yes, while bottled water may be convenient for us humans who are always going and going, it's not very convenient for the rest of the world. Our environment was not grown with plastic. Plastic is not nature based, therefore it is not organic, meaning it can’t decompose, or give anything to the environment except pollution, death, and trash.…

The city response to add chlorine to kill the bacteria initially lead to its own suit of problems of which are less discussed. The chlorine reacted with organic matter in the water forming a common class of disinfection byproducts, trihalomethanes (THMs), which are tasteless and odorless known carcinogens (1999). THMs can be taken into the body via drinking and adsorption through the skin (Hood, 2005). Therefore, not only is drinking the water a concern, but now, the water is damaging just to be in contact with all before Pb introduction. Concentrations of these trihalomethanes are unknown and generally unmonitored, yet, are commonplace in Superfund sites across the nation.…

According to this article, the tap water in Flint, Michigan became toxic due to the governor’s office and the state Department of Environmental Quality. They were aware of how toxic the water of the Flint river is but decided to ignore the issue and did not treat the water properly. Making the switch of water supply was going to save them some money but no matter the circumstances, they knew how harmful that water supply was therefore, they must have purposefully harmed these people for some greater reason than for just saving themselves…
