What 's the next biggest controversy besides the next president? The next biggest controversy is if bottled water is safer than tap water. There 's always that memory of drinking from the water hose during the summer, but was a cold bottle of water safer? The most recognized concern for tap water is all the chemicals that are in the water. Bottled water is falsely labeled to hide all the concerning health effects Although tap water negatively affects our health, bottled water affects our health and the planet.
First, tap water is hazardous to the health. Tap water contains chemicals in the water that causes many health issues. One of the chemicals that can be found in tap water is chlorine. Chlorine is used as disinfectant in the water because it is cheap not safe. Dr. J Price states, "Chlorine is the greatest crippler and killer of modern times. While it prevented epidemics of one disease, it was creating another. Two decades ago, after the start of chlorinating our drinking water in 1904, the present epidemic of heart trouble, cancer and senility began" (qtd. in Corriher). Another chemical that is most used and talked about in tap water is Fluoride. E.P.A (The Environmental Protection Agency) defines fluoride as toxic waste product from aluminum processing, uranium processing, and fertilizer manufacture.
