This actual cause of death leads to some of the leading deaths in the United States such as heart disease, cancer, and others. The main substance in alcohol that causes intoxication is ethanol. This ethanol and other substances found in alcohol acts as a depressant. A depressant means to negatively affect the functions of ones central nervous system. Alcohol consumption is based on ones behavior. The health problems from consuming alcohol are alcoholism, cardiovascular disease, cancer, cirrhosis, and many others. It is seen that alcohol consumption is the risk factor for these problems. In the United States, everyone has access to alcohol no matter what age you are. Yes, the United States does have a law where the age limit to be able to buy and drink alcohol is 21. The problem with this law is that people under the age of 21 still find a way to access alcohol. The main population where alcohol consumption is focused on is those who are underage drinkers. There is a reason why 21 are the age limit for drinking, and that reason is for saving lives. Alcohol consumption is in every age group, both male and female. Biostatistics comes in by using rates, one such as a prevalence rate. Prevalence rate is cases that exist in a population at a certain time. According to alcohol policy, environmental factors contributing to alcohol consumption includes “How you are able to access alcohol, signs of advertisements, and more”. If someone lives in an area where there are many places that have alcohol for example a bar or club. These places have flashing lights and loud music, which lures someone in on going to that place. This is where the problem comes in on being able to go to these places. The age to enter some clubs is 18 for female and 21 for male. Bouncers who are the ones that check for ID would let anyone in with a bribe, and this creates underage people to be in places they should not be. The environment of a club, or bar has alcohol and by seeing other people drinking it can set the mood for them to drink as well. They want to get that feeling of what depressants do. There are also many advertisements on T.V such as commercials showing a new flavor of alcohol that comes out. It isn’t only commercials but also T.V shows such as Jersey Shore, movies, and also billboards showing to buy this brand of alcohol. Public health can approach these environmental factors by seeing what areas has many bars and clubs, billboards, and try to focus on these specific area. It isn’t easy to stop commercials, movies, and T.V shows from showing how alcohol is a fun thing to do. It is best to educate and show commercials on what harmful things alcohol does to the body
