The Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) has done several studies on abortion in the United States. There are two studies that include the year 1987 and 2004 where a total of 3,900 women who had taken a survey and were also obtaining abortions. In the United States, there are 9 out of 10 abortions that are performed during the first trimester, which is the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Most are usually done within the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. Not very many abortions are done after 16 weeks because of the delay and size of the fetus. In most cases, an abortion after 16 weeks requires an abortion specialist, which is not likely done in certain areas in the United States. This requires more money with finding, traveling, and due to the size of the …show more content…
According to the United States Court case of Roe vs. Wade in 1973, it was ruled that an unborn child is not a legal person for it has no rights or any protection under the constitution law. A fetus is not considered a person until it takes its first breath out of the womb. In the common law, a person is not considered a person until it is born alive. A punishment a woman received in an illegal abortion was less then committing an actual murder. It would only be a misdemeanor (Arthur, 2001). The fetus is not also considered to be a legal person. Pro-choice supports the rights and privacy a women has, especially when it comes to her own body. It shouldn’t subject to government’s regulation when a woman decides to have an abortion because it is her own reproductive system. Reproductive rights is a very intense issue, and there are groups like the ACLU that are working hard to make sure no woman or girl loses her rights to a safe and legal abortion if she does then decides to have …show more content…
For example, a mother could not take the proper measures into taking care of the unborn fetus. Such as prenatal care, she can also endanger her unborn children with drug abuse. We can agree that fetuses can become human beings, but we can’t say that they are. Many differences come from a human being and a fetus. The exact moment of life isn’t always clear; therefore abortion shouldn’t be considered murder. Since the embryo would still be dependent on the mother’s body for survival, it is not a viable life in its own right.
In an argument, if it wasn’t for abortion, more welfare-eligible babies will be born, also meaning increasing our tax cost. Not only the United States, but the world also is suffering from over population. People on the pro-choice side who are for abortion, believe that it will reduce the number of “unfit” people who reproduce (Crum & McCormack, 1992).
There are many women who have regretted their role in their own abortion. The guilt that takes place after terminating their pregnancy stays. A possible psychological breakdown can results in an abortion. This also includes mental breakdowns that sometimes require counseling and even

First we must decide if the fetus is indeed a person or not. Munson states, “The claim of the fetus as a person must be given weight and respect in deliberating about any action that would terminate its life” (Munson, p. 456). If we rule that a fetus is a person, then abortion would be a case of unjust killing (Munson, p.456). So, if a fetus is a person it, like all human beings, has the right to life and one without harm. This relates back to cases like that of Tabita Bricci.…

According to the Pro-Choice Action Network, “If fetal rights were enshrined in law, women’s bodies, rights, and health would be subordinated to the protection of embryos” (Misconceptions About Abortion, n.d.). This brings the topic right back to the Roe v. Wade case that ensures that the rights of the mother comes before those of the fetus growing inside her. Thanks to women who fought for their right abortion, women have the right to choose safe and effective ways to end an unwanted…

Abortion is the planned termination of a human pregnancy. Several philosophers and activists have argued over if it is permissible. The author of A Defense of Abortion, Judith Jarvis Thomson, is correct about her argument that abortion is permissible even if the fetus is a person. This is because a woman’s right to bodily autonomy, which, combined with the woman’s own right to life, takes precedent over a fetus’s right to life. Even if people claim that she gave the fetus permission to be there, she should not be forced into going against her right to bodily autonomy.…

In 1970, two attorneys dedicated to women’s advocacy, and recent graduates from the University of Texas Law School, Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, took McCorvey’s case and dubbed their plaintiff “Jane Roe” a pseudonym to help protect her identity. Then on March 3, 1970, Coffee filed a complaint at the Dallas federal district courthouse, suing the State of Texas over the constitutionality over its abortion laws. The case was later amended into a class action lawsuit on behalf of all other women who were or might become pregnant and want to consider all the options. The suit was filed against Henry Wade, the Dallas district attorney, and official responsible for enforcing criminal laws, including anti-abortion statutes. The suit asked that…

Many people tend to focus their argument on the life of the fetus without putting no value to the life of the mother. Personhood is the condition of being an individual person, aware of self, and be able to think. Fetus does not have consciousness, cannot think, and is dependent to the mother, therefore, it is not constitute as a person. The Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution does not include the unborn as a person. Every choice we make in life comes with a decision which is governed by individual rights.…

Abortion isn’t murder until at least 24 weeks after conception/fertilization. This is where most people are confused. It 's easy to argue that a baby is a baby but yet at the same time scientifically a human isn 't considered a human until at least 20 weeks. From conception until 24 weeks it 's just considered a sac of cells and given the name “fetus” which normally we refer that name to an unborn baby.…

The topic of abortion is one that is and will continue to produce heated debates. Ever since the ruling of Roe V. Wade many children have lost their opportunity for life. As of 2011, there are approximately 1.06 abortions per year in the United States alone. That’s about two abortions per minute. Since abortion was legalized in 1973, there have been 53 million abortions performed in the United States (Lipka, 2014).…

Claim 1 Abortion is a safe procedure when it is performed within the first trimester. By law, women can only receive an abortion within the first twelve weeks of their pregnancy. This is because the risk of complications increases significantly after the first trimester. Most abortions are done at home by taking a medication that makes the body mimic a miscarriage. Often times when women are denied the right to abort, the opt for illegal abortions.…

There has been a long existing debate of “Pro-Life” versus “Pro-Choice” about whether or not women should be able to abort a child. Many people being Pro-Choice will use the argument that the fetus isn 't a living person, and rather that it is the woman’s body; therefore the woman’s choice. There are other options women have such as adoption: waiting until the baby is born and providing the child a well-suited family to properly care for them. I believe any way you can avoid aborting a child is better than abortion because you give the child a chance for life. An unborn child in the womb contains all of the characteristics for it to be considered living, proving abortion is morally and scientifically wrong.…
