In the article “Two Years Are Better than Four”, Liz Addison opposes the interpretation of modern day community colleges. In today’s society, community colleges are underappreciated and lack the respect that they deserve; community colleges are deemed “easygoing” since they are easier to get into then a so-called “privileged” college or university. Addison examines the expectations, affordability, level of education, and the growth and development of community colleges in contradiction of a four-year college or University. In high school, if not told already, students are planted with a seed.…

Another example of how the education system is weakening is best modeled by this generation of teenagers. This generation has struggled with competition being removed from classrooms, grade scales being based on effort instead of achievement and overall, grades being more imperative than knowledge. In a brief interview around the Cypress Lake High School’s hallways, seventy-five percent of surveyed juniors and seniors reported feeling unprepared for the future. Cristina Hernandez, Class President and Advanced Placement (AP) student, stated that, “I had to be very independent mid-junior year, I always cared for school and doing well but I never knew that school was an investment for my future or that I needed certain things to get into college;…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

Downside of Grades “Don’t let schooling interfere with your education,” Mark Twain once stated. Mark Twain’s quote should be implied on education today, where students should focus more on their academic knowledge in education. Alfie Kohn, the author of “The Dangerous Myth of Grade Inflation”, describes students are losing the focus and knowledge of what the opportunities are provided for them to pursue in education. In agreement, the loss of academic knowledge continues to plague high school students as they prepare for college. With enormous amounts of study work, students become stressed out and nervous to study for their tests and exams.…

Frustration and anger ran through my veins like no other consuming me into a pool of anguish. I was crushed under a dark burdensome gray cloud, while all I could witness was my entire world crumbling apart in front of me. Midway through my Sophomore year all I could think to myself was “I’ve failed.” I never anticipated my Sophomore year to turn out the way it did with poor grades, blame, and frustration, but I never expected it to also be so transformative. A growing problem in high schools today is there is not enough preparation for seniors to enter college with confidence. Many administrators overlook this problem because once the students graduate, they are not the problem of the school anymore. This issue should be brought to the high school senior’s attention before they experience serious issues in college and make costly mistakes. That is why students should be taught how to study correctly and get real world experience before graduating. While the schools need to offer a wider variety of classes to the students to get them prepared for life outside of school.…

Introduction College is inherently stressful due to the elevated academic rigors that face the student—typically a stark contrast from their prior high school years. The stress can come from many different areas of the student’s life, and the increased academic stress can have significant effects on the student including psychological and biological impacts. The solution to reducing the stress and therefore improving the health and future in students does not fall to the university decreasing the rigor of their courses, therefore allowing every student a passing grade and a degree. The universities need to mitigate this stress by providing more support to the student. Alleviating this inherent academic stress can be summarized by the fact…
