1. Franklin Delano Roosevelt came into power as the 32nd president of the United States in March, 1933. He was the only president in American history to hold office for four terms. He was the American Leaser during the Great Depression and World War II. He rose to be the head of Democratic Party which had strong hold over American politics for three decades. Historically, Roosevelt is remembered as a controversial leader due to his strong decision making over ruling the lengthy legislative chain. A number of historians admired him and many critics despised and criticized him. However, today the history remembers him as one of the greatest American presidents who steered America out of troubled times.

(a) Commitment. Roosevelt had a strong commitment to his cause. He would not leave any stone unturned to achieve the desired result. From the very onset of his power, Roosevelt displayed his resolve by incorporating hundred days of congressional and presidential cooperation to address the severe economic crisis. Again, during his second term he confronted and fought his case Supreme Court for the legitimacy of his new deal programme.
(b) Communication Skills. Roosevelt was an excellent communicator and a fast learner. His thirst for knowledge and had a thinking mind with the ability to absorb information. In his famous fireside chats on Radio, he communicated directly to his voters and used metaphors easily understood by the public. He developed a genuine feeling of well being in the masses.

Relief to the farming sector and agricultural reforms. One of the most pressing issues of Roosevelt’s era was the farm relief issue. The farming community was severely poverty stricken barely able to keep both ends meet and they defaulted on their mortgages and other costs. Roosevelt addressed this vital issue by implementing reforms in the shape of Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) for the provision of relief to the farmers. The salient features of the reforms included:
(a) To restore the agricultural sector, Government was bound to buy extra grain produced by the farmers since that was a major cause to low crop prices.
(b) Restoration of parity between farm products and industrial products, allowing the farmers to earn profits off of their crops.
(c) Establishment of farm credit unions to allow farmers soft loans avoiding severe debt.
