The United States wanted nothing to do with the war. In the eyes of the United States they wished to remain neutral in the war. Then it all changed when Japan attacked. Pearl Harbor was one of the major contributing factors to jump start World War II. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor,” Congress declared war on Japan the day after the attack” (Keene 684). Then after the United States declared war on Japan after the Pearl Harbor Germany then declared war on the United States. So the United States was dragged into batter with Germany even though the only country they had a problem with at the time was Japan. Since Britain had fought off Germany for a full year Germany had to withdraw and regroup. With that the United States reached out to Britain
