There has been increased awareness among the public and health care providers. Sixteen percent of the increase in California was due to social influence and increased awareness. (Rodgers, Scott) Investigators also found that children living in close ranges to another child that has been previously diagnosed with autism had a better chance of being diagnosed with autism themselves. (Rodgers, Scott) Thus, showing that when one child gets diagnosed with autism, parents of other children also want to be sure and get their own children checked.
