Sexual assault the most violent and unreported crimes in America and on college campuses. Many college students said they have been sexually assaulted in some form while at school, usually in date-rape situations.
Sexual assault is not reported because some students don't see the sexual assault as a crime. Majority of the time, 80 to 90 percent of the victims and perpetrator know each other. A few other reasons why it is not reported is the victims are concerned about their privacy and they also are not sure if they can prove that a crime was committed or if the perpetrator will be convicted.
Studies show that 1 in 5 female students have been sexually assaulted during their college years and only 7% report the incident to college officials and 63 percent of sexual assaults are never reported to police. The reason why sexual assault is so prevalent on college campuses is, school are in denial about the problem at hand, The assault is not reported as often so people can't take action and find ways to prevent it.
