not relaxed then not performing as well seems to be quite possible. The 400% increase in participants who don’t feel stress in the math classroom after the action implementation shows me the impact of removing a grade. I enjoyed seeing students being able to focus during assessments and not squirming in the chair and asking questions on how to complete a particular task. When the students were presented with a task that they were not real comfortable with or did not understand proficiently the ability to remain focused and give an honest effort was still present. On days that the students were assessed they came into the classroom with the same energy level as on the days when they knew that an assessment would not be completed.

Some students at the beginning of the year have a more difficult time with time management than others. Also, not having one classroom desk that already has everything needed for class will result in students forgetting materials. The start of the school year was the first time for this group of students that they were expected to change from one classroom to another without being led by a teacher, as well as needing to keep all material for each class in a locker. Combine that with the natural tendency to be social as often as possible, four minutes to be into the next classroom with all of the needed material can be difficult. Too many variables within each student are present to really know if the actions of the study had an impact on the areas of tardiness and …show more content…
I believe that the actions implemented within this study led to increased student performance, specifically in the areas of personal attitudes and standard proficiency. Students with varying rates of knowledge acquisition and with different abilities to retain information were able to demonstrate proficiency, and even mastery, most of the time throughout the study. Also, student attitudes were impacted from the implemented actions. Feelings of being free of stress while completing an assessment to actually enjoying being assessed over math standards speaks to the success of abolishing the grading scale. Being proficient or achieving mastery will most likely be experienced by the masses and not the few when students have the desire to learn, have a positive self-image of being a mathematician, and want to demonstrate understanding of material. The medical field has the belief that an implemented action should at the very least Do No Harm. I believe this study definitely accomplished that goal and, more importantly, positively impacted the

According to a policy statement on the effects of early school start times made by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2014, many recent studies have shown that a delaying start times result in a boost in teenagers’ grades and standardized test scores (American Academy of Pediatrics). One study done on Chicago public high school students found that student grades and test scores were considerably lower in first-period classes when compared to afternoon classes. Further, the study found a correlation between student performance on end-of-year standardized tests and the time in which the students were scheduled to take them (Cortez). Another study done on freshmen Air Force Academy students found that the students who started classes after 8:00am performed better across all of their courses compared to those who started before 8:00am (Carrell et al). A study done on middle schoolers found that moving back the start time by one hour could improve the average student’s math and reading by three percent (Edwards).…

Summary I gain a lot of insight and learning from going through the process of identifying a student, getting to know them, administering a variety of assessments, writing about and interpreting the test results, researching interventions and supports, and making recommendations based on all of the information collected. My two main takeaways are that I had some difficulties with Woodcock Johnson IV assessment and that I significantly changed my mind about the pedagogy of math. I struggled with administering and interpreting the Woodcock Johnson IV. While I was administering the test it was difficult to just follow the script and not prompt the student to think about the question longer or review their work before they had a final answer.…

Many students feel that they are simply too tired to focus on their daily coursework. This is due to their lack of sleep. Early school start times prevent students from getting the 8-11 hours of sleep children and teenagers really need. Some people argue that school should not start later, but I strongly believe that the school 's start time should be pushed back towards 9 a.m. This additional hour will allow students to have a good night 's rest which will increase their probabilities of academic and social success as well as increased health.…

Schools in the morning look like they have zombies roaming the halls instead of students. The cause of this is sleep deprivation from waking up super early to be to school on time. It’s no secret that throughout the school year, students and teachers wake up early in the morning just to get ready and go to school- but what if this is unhealthy and actually affects your ability to focus in school? School requires students and teachers to wake up early and arrive on time. This can be stressful and pose health issues, typically related to insufficient sleep. School should start later, because these issues can be resolved with an extended amount of time to sleep and extra time to themselves for students and teachers to complete schoolwork and enable them to discover possible interests.…
