One reason is it just takes me forever to figure out what I want to write about. I can be writing about rocket science right now, but in the next moment I may just switch to the effect of population growth on economics. Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

Portrait of a Writer As I have mentioned in previous essays, I much prefer reading to writing. However, once I get my flow going, I am able to write some well thought out essays. I think the main thing that I see when I look at myself as a writer is why I write. As far back as I can remember, I have never written anything for fun, never had a journal or anything like that. Basically, I only write when I have to.…

Contrary to the myths we are told by society, staying up all night to finish an essay is not the way to go about it. I should allow myself time in college to pause and take a walk when I get stumped. In Beginning Drawing, I should walk around and allow my mind to deviate from my pencil and paper. That being said, I cannot wait until the night before an assignment is due to begin my work.…

You also need to know how to pick and limit your writing topic. Rather than having many different ideas about one topic jumbled together, pick one idea and make a good, clear essay about it. You must have a topic where you are able to limit the size and handle it well. To be successful with academic writing, you must understand what you are doing when you write and it also depends on how you go about your writing task.…

Just like Baker in "Learning to Write", I procrastinated on my paper until the last minute, trying to think of a better idea than what was in my head. I could not pinpoint my thoughts on the topic, so I waited and waited for some brilliant inspiration to strike. I waited too long. " Sprawled on the sofa, I finally faced up to the grim task..." I do not revise my essays very much besides taking into consideration my peer’s comments. I need to give myself more time to work on my second draft and the revision of that second draft; I usually stay up late writing this essay and I would like to space out my work over a period of time instead of cramming it two days before the essay is due. I usually get distracted when typing an essay because I go through different social media websites and browse through them until I realize that I have to finish my essay; I usually watch videos on YouTube or message my friends on Facebook; I should limit myself from distractions by putting away my phone or even having a post-it note reminder to not stray away from my essay because I will regret it when I am still working on my essay at 2:00 in the morning.…

Does waiting until the last minute to embark on a writing project or assignment really ensure the highest quality of content in the finished product? When creating a written document that classmates or teachers are going to assess, most people are concerned with putting forth their best effort. The most strenuous part of the procedure was the preparation because I was never organized when writing my essays some sentences where too short others where too long and some did not belong where I had placed them.
