Pedro is affected psychologically because of the violation of human rights in Chile. Pedro is affected in his home because every night his parents listen to the radio and he hears about what is happening in Chile. Pedro asked his mother “Why do you always listen to that radio with all that static?” (Skármeta 79). Pedro’s mother replied with “Because what it says is interesting” (Skámeta 79). Pedro was curious about why it was so interesting to his mother and asked “What’s it say?” ( Skármeta 79).
