The purpose of this research study is to determine the effects of a high intensity versus a low intensity warm up on oxygen deficit and performance. This study hypothesized that the oxygen deficit levels will decrease with a high intensity warm up, therefore reaching steady state faster compared to a low intensity warm up. The Independent Variables are high intensity warm up versus a low intensity warm up, and the Dependent Variable are Oxygen Deficit and performance. There are also limitations such as placebo effect, inexperienced participants, unregulated schedules, and unmonitored preparations which include proper diet and sleep, and sometimes illnesses of the participant. Notable key terms are oxygen deficit, VO2 max and …show more content…
All these warm ups are done by cycling. The participants will be randomized of whom will be tested first and the type of warm up to simulate ‘real world’ results after the data of the participants max test were taken.
Baseline VO2 Max Testing
In Max Test, information regarding age, height, weight, and current health status will be collected from participants first to be inputted programmed max text. Participants will then be asked to perform the programmed max test while wearing a mouthpiece that was attached to a gas analyzer. By performing the max test, the following will determine the max watt or peak power, VO2 peak, HR max, and max time.
Low Intensity Warm up
In the Oxygen Deficit Low Intensity Warm up, participants will be fitted with a mouthpiece that is attached to a gas analyzer. They will be asked to perform a three minutes at 20 Watts, then a low intensity warm up for six minutes at 70% of their lactate threshold. Then, the participants will rest for 15 minutes. After a rest, the participants will perform three minutes at 20 Watts, and then 90% max watts until exhaustion. Lastly, Oxygen deficit and time until exhaustion will be
