Over the course of 3 days: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I have been keeping careful track of all the food that I consume. Treating these days not as days in order to actually try and eat right, but eat what I normally do, and then analyze the data from the food I ate. This data does not take into account the probiotic and multivitamin that I take daily in the morning. The data that was gathered will help compare the recommended daily nutrient intake to my actual intake, the changes that should be made, and why certain nutrients are important to incorporate in my daily diet. That is not something that I normally do not consume enough of so that surprised me. The small lemonade that I drank on Day 2 had the most vitamin C in it with 21.1 mg. Vitamin D is something that I am supposed to have about 15 mcg and I only had 2.57 mcg. This was found mostly in the Chocolate milk that I drank on Day 3. Vitamin E or Alpha Tocopherol is suppose to be about 15 mg. meanwhile I only had 0.50 mg. This means this is something that I did not consume enough of. It was mostly in the Honey bun I ate on Day 1. Folate is a vitamin that is recommended to be 400.00 mcg and I had an intake of 362.76, which is actually very close to being what I should have eaten. This is a vitamin that can be found in the Chex …show more content…
I may not like these changes but I need to make them in order to have a balanced diet. Without this change I have a higher chance in dealing with diseases and that is something I do not want. Making a conscious decision about what I put in my mouth and the nutrients that it has is something that I definitely will start focusing on. I also have learned to stay away from more processed foods and instead choose more natural fruits and vegetables. Eating nuts as a snack instead of junk processed food is the way to go. The data I have gathered has allowed me to understand what I should be in taking, the changes that must occur, and why it is important. Making a conscious decision is something that I have taken from my food

Health and nutrition, particularly my own, is something I have taken special interest in lately as I’ve come to realize I’m rapidly approaching the second half of my life and want it to be as good as, or even better than, the first half. If I were to be asked eight weeks ago if I was a healthy person, my answer would be a resounding, “Yes;” my regular physicals and blood work confirming my response. And while I still believe that to be true, what an eye opener the Diet Analysis project was, as far as understanding my actual nutritional intake in comparison to the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) of nutrients recommended for optimal health and well-being. The following paragraphs not only detail the Diet Analysis PLUS program used for this project,…

After completing the supertracker assignment I realized that I should be switching out some of my refined grains for whole grains because I was getting very little whole grains. I also realized that I was eating very little vegetables in my diet and I should incorporate more vegetables and a little more dairy in my diet to reach a proper amount of dairy and vegetables for my age, height, and weight.…

My overall intake of nutrients raised a red flag towards my health, when I saw that my sodium intake is over the recommended consumption amount. I see that I could put myself in danger of having a stroke in the future. I also know that I need to improve in my vitamin intake. The vitamins I least consume in my meals are vitamin K, vitamin E, and vitamin D. Since I was a child, I’ve suffered from low iron levels. I was advised by doctors to take three iron pills a day to neutralize my iron levels.…

So, consuming more of these would higher my intake of folate too. Vitamin b12 (Cobalamin): For this vitamin during my 3-day intake, I consumed a total of 3.02 ug with the DRI recommending only 2.40 ug per day. I consumed 126% of the vitamin which is over the 100% mark so it would be in my best favor to keep taking the multivitamin but also since I am a little over, to reduce the amount of red meat I eat which contains an abundant amount of vitamin…

I modified my diet in all 3 days by adding 125mL of chocolate milk (1%) as it will benefit my vitamin D and calcium intake, so with this modification comes a double benefit. This brought my calcium intake to around 583.6mg/day, rather than 430.4mg. Another modification I made to Day 1 was substituted my snack of salad and dressing for a kale salad and almonds. Kale and almonds are both much higher in calcium than salad and dressing. This substitution brought my calcium intake from 20mg to 152.2mg which is a significant…
