The Effects Of Bad Parenting: Taking Care Of Children

I always believed that you could see the effects of bad parenting by just looking at the difference of people raised in the seventies and now in 2016. People then knew how to respect one another and learned how to behave. People now or children I should say are doing the things people wouldn’t dare do in their time. There are kids smoking, drinking, robbing and killing at only thirteen. There is one big thing we fail to remember is “lead by example” that’s been drilled into our heads our whole lives. Us as adults teach our children to be good and kind to all people even if the odds are against us but to not lay on our backs and deal what is handed to us that’s what our future is. So when they say parenting is just financially taking care of a child is not enough, they begin to look for love and attention in the wrong places or become content with being alone. Also Bad parenting can lead to poor coping skills and understanding their emotions. For example if a child had a scrapped knee and the parent said you will be okay get over it, the child begins to feel as if their invisible and feels as if the parent could care less and the parent continues to watch TV while their child cares for themselves. Now, if a child comes in with a scrapped knee and the parent actually cares for the child and not coddle but consoles the child on their injury, the child feels safe and happy the parent truly cares and stops what they are doing to make sure the child is okay. A child, a young brain remembers these types of things because a parent is a child is a protector and caregiver (example provided by Mokeyane, December 2016, p.2) A child at their young ages remembers these types of things because that is their memories, their base on how they’ll raise their children and their children’s children. It’s nearly the same as abuse, they begin to lash out at anything they don’t like. Another issue is kids begin to fail academically if the parent isn’t academically involved. The questions a parent usually ask if they care about their child’s education “Did you do your homework? What homework have you done? When is your homework due?” questions like these a parent would ask if their child’s education was important, just as their
