Bell Hooks argues that children are organically predisposed to be critical thinkers and that this process is often interrupted once they enter the educational system (Hooks, Critical Thinking, 7, 8.) If there is an interruption in the system, a review of the system is warranted, to see what is being taught in the classroom? Are students learning? Are students forced …show more content…
In the summer one semester, I decided to attend two online classes. I never met any of my professors and had a very difficult time with the materials in the courses. With minimal support, I was still able to complete the assignments as specified, support was very limited, all testing except the final, was done online. I hold myself to higher standard, but how easy would it been to search for answers online while taking a test. Based on what I submitted and scoring well on the tests, I passed the class, but how is this positive learning? I see it as a lowering in academic standards, there are too many negative factors to consider, the instructors were under the assumption that I did all the work myself, but they were not present, I did not listen to their lectures, I did not receive oral instructions, and so how can this be an accurate representation for the grade I received. The American education system has been a system that has been heavily criticized not only by other countries, but by the people, especially the students, within America. What an amazing critical thinking response. Your post made me think more into the situations and the feelings that someone with dementia has and feels. You put a lot of thought into what you post and that's awesome. I think a lot of people get too frustrated too quickly with someone who is suffering from this disease , and rather than help the person, they give up too quickly. Daily duties is something I never thought off that could help someone.…

In the first perspective it explains that you, as a person should focus on self improvement and become more self reliant. I honestly think as an opinion you would need to keep boosting people's spirits instead of being self centered because you don't want to make them feel good. Everyone has their own traits, personality, and characteristics, but if you don't care about other people, it shows you that you are careless about the good people on this earth. A strength of the first perspective is that you can get things accomplished and succeed in goals in your lifetime.…

However, standardized tests measure one small facet in the world of education. In fact, a five-year University of Maryland study found that, "the pressure teachers were feeling to 'teach to the test' since NCLB was leading to "declines in teaching higher-order thinking, in the amount of time spent on complex assignments, and in the actual amount of high cognitive content in the curriculum. " This, in the long run, will be detrimental to the youth joining the workforce with no experience in terms of problem-solving and creativity. The future of American innovation depends on these two unique skills. Unfortunately, the University of Maryland study was not an anomaly.…
