Reflective Essay On Conventions And Mechanics

Out of the five learning outcomes, I have decided to address “Conventions and Mechanics” as the focus of this reflective introduction, using my analysis paper, “Chancellor Inauguration Speech”. This paper was based on the book The Education of a Lifetime, written by Robert Khayat. This specific learning outcome has affected me the most throughout this course. I chose this learning outcome because it has been my biggest struggle. On every paper I have written for this class, I always score poorly on conventions and mechanics. With the work I completed on my analysis paper, it was clear to see some of the mistakes that I made. I see many examples where my writing could have been tremendously improved by just taking the time to sit down and proofread my work, and by fixing parts of my paper that aren’t clear or understandable. It is important to know conventions and mechanics and how to use them and apply them properly. They are such a vital part of writing. One thing I’ve learned throughout this course is that when it comes to writing, every piece of work will have flaws. There is no such thing as the ideal perfect essay. Even professional writers work isn’t perfect. I tend to find little mistakes in magazine articles or essay examples all the time. The goal is to improve your work and to fix as many mistakes as you can. That is what it takes to become a successful writer, to identify the ways you can improve. Next time I find myself writing an essay, I will be sure to review my final work and double check for careless mistakes. It will further prepare me for the future essays I write, and could make the difference between receiving an A instead of a
