The next system is the mesosystem this system focuses on the relationships in one’s life such as family and friends and how they interconnect with the microsystem. The exosystem looks at the community, rules, policies effecting the neighborhood such as crime levels or resources available and how these factors play their role. Lastly there is the macrosystem this system looks at the social values and society’s tolerance to poverty, class and gender roles on a large scale. When factoring in my relationships within the mesosystem I always had a good relationship with my parents and felt I could be open with them about my feelings. I always knew they would support me; this was a major resiliency factor for me. The supports available within my exosytem where always available. My school boards funding offered many supports for youth with learning disability’s and I never felt like my needs were not being met. The neighborhood I grew up in felt safe and secure, these factors all helped to further build resiliency in my life. The final macrosystem analysis looks at how society would view me if I decided to not return to school to pursue my education. The fact that I was a “high school drop out” presented a major risk factor in my life. And ultimately this label was what motivated me to go back and pursue my education. I would not allow myself to fall into society’s belief that a high school dropout is a failure, thus turning a risk into resiliency.
Brofenbremnnar’s theories are impactful in that they often provide a starting point for new learners to begin to understand psychological theory. Brofenbremnnar’s believed in a 4-part system to better understand the risk and resiliency factors in one’s life. In relation to my
