In the article, “Why Bother” by Michael Pollan, we see him discuss many arguments on why we should do our part in going green. His inspiration to start living green was inspired by Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. He discusses that many people are aware of the rapid environmental changes, but feel that it is too late to take action. I don’t believe that is true.…
Gifford Pinchot protecting the environment The environment is extremely valuable, once it is ruined, it will be very hard to repair and recover. In some cases, it would be impossible to turn back around. Once it happens the Earth would be stuck like that forever, or at least until the end of time. People like Gifford Pinchot, John Muir, Theodore Roosevelt, and Woodrow Wilson saw this, and they decided to do something about it.…
According to the dictionary an environmentalist is defined as “a person who is concerned with or advocates the protection of the environment.” There are dozens of great environmentalists that have changed the world today. One that stuck out in particular was Julia Hill. Julia Hill was a woman who at the age of 22 affected the Redwood forest in a spectacular way. Julia was born in Mount Vernon, Missouri on February 18th, 1974.…
At the end of the day, the environment is all we have, because without it we wouldn’t be here. It is crucial for people to acknowledge this and treat their land properly. The first principle of the earth charter discusses why you must respect the earth, and life in all of its diversity. It states that you must” Recognize that all beings are interdependent and every form of life has value regardless of its worth to human beings.” I believe Tobias was a man who lived his life with standards like such.…

For this assignment, I had to calculate my carbon footprint using three different calculators: Cool Climate Network Calculator, Carbon Calculator, and the EPA Carbon Footprint Calculator. I assessed how much electricity and natural gas was used in my student house, where 7 individuals live. I got different results from each calculator. I believe that the difference in results was due to the fact that two of the calculators were based on the footprint of the average American household, such as the Barkeley calculator and the EPA calculator. For the American based calculator, I used the zip code 14301 for Niagara Falls, NY.…
Environmental Concerns “Should Environmentalists Continue to Be Alarmists?” When it comes to environmental concerns there is always going to be those that tend to care beyond the call of duty, just enough, or not all. Usually, how information is presented and the timing of when it is announced by an Environmentalist can affect how the overall population reacts to the news. It can change their perception of how much each individual will continue to care or not to care for the environment. If for example an Environmentalist made an announcement that a specific area was running out of fresh drinking water during a really bad drought then I would think everyone would be on board to conserve their water resources.…
Many people do see the harm that society puts on the nature, itself. A whole lot of environmentalists today, have been isolated from the rest of “normal” society. An example of this is like environmental conservatives vs. pro-coal…

As Americans continue to live prosperous lives, we diminish our natural recourses and environment around us. We will not understand the importance of our Earth until it’s too late. As an American citizen, I can say myself that I am very stubborn when it comes to change. Although I believe if we were more aware of the dire consequences we would alter our lifestyle; starting with the little things for example, turning the faucet off while brushing our teeth, recycling more often, and picking up trash we find on the ground. As days pass by we continue to ignore the warnings from our scientists and the signs around us.…
In today’s world, global warming is common knowledge to most people. Every day global warming gets worse. Some people in today’s society are eager to stop global warming because they are aware of the problems that global warming is causing to people and the Earth. Across the world, people know that industrial smokestacks are a big cause of global warming in today’s society. Some people believe that by ignoring global warming that it will not affect them, and that they can’t make a difference.…
“Forget Shorter Showers” Summary and Response Something that can seem so obvious to the majority of the world and has a very high chance to be the truth, can be heartbreaking to find out that it is not the truth. In a short article titled “Forget Shorter Showers”, Derrick Jensen illustrated to the viewers that saving the Earth should be a personal goal to all individuals in the world. He expressed this my stating a lot of ways in which the plant is suffering due to the lack of caring for the Earth. He than began to mention that the little things that seems to help with environment does next to nothing. For instance, when people recycle, reduce and reuse, these things can be lead to believe that this is a excellent way to tackle the problem.…
Ecological design is a major part of our coming future and is necessary for the prosperity of our species as caretakers for the world. Sim Van Der Ryn and Stuart Cowan, in their book Ecological Design, address five principles in design that will help to move society in the right direction. These principles are: solutions from your place, ecological accounting, designing with nature, everyone is a designer, and making nature visible. It has been over the course of the last century that building designers and engineers have neglected the entirety of environmental impacts that went into their buildings. They have built, I believe, from a strictly human perspective with regard only to what the majority wants.…
The Earth is currently facing detrimental environmental issues. These issues have been evident for decades; however, many people have continuously denied them to be problematic or even their existence entirely. While these critics have managed to get away with the rejection of these problems for many years, it is no longer deniable that the issue of environmental degradation is very real and in need of immediate action. Much of the population has come to understand this, and have executed a variety of modest attempts to increase environmental sustainability. However, these efforts have demonstrated to be of minimal effect in solving the large-scale issues directly causing the degradation.…
