The Earthquake That Shook My Paradigm of Life As a young child, I always felt like I had the world under my control. Anything a kid my age would ever dream of attaining was always given to me whenever I wanted. I always saw life as a bright adventure and never thought that anything could go wrong. Since I was a kid, I have known that my parents love me and I have always felt safe around them, I was as happy as any kid could ever be. As the oldest of two brothers and a sister growing up in Lima, Peru, I was raised to believe that everything in life is perfect and that there is no evil or bad in the world. I was raised to take pleasure in life and learned that I will always be happy as long as I have everything I love and need around me. At …show more content…
by the time we finished with all of our activities. I had such a long, exhausting day and I was ready to go back home. Once I arrived home, I rushed to take a shower and change out of my school uniform. I could smell the aroma of the rich and pleasant candles my mom had lit around the house; it was like walking into paradise. After I showered, I ran with enthusiasm to the living room and opened the Legos I had just bought. I was going to finally finish building the robot I was working on. As my mother was putting my siblings to sleep, my dad turned on the TV. Once my siblings were in bed, my parents sat behind me on the couch and put a famous Peruvian game show called Habacilar. The show was a live game show aired on channel 4 and it was the most watched TV show every weekday at 6:00 p.m., while the earthquake was happening the TV show was still …show more content…
On our way down I could feel the dust and small pieces of concrete from the ceiling getting stuck on my bare feet. Everyone was scared of the earthquake coming back, so as everyone was coming down the stairs, they were running as fast as they could. The metal handles felt like you were grabbing a coke from the fridge every time you would try to grab onto it. Once me and my family made it to ground level, we felt a great relief. Everyone outside was in disbelief of what they had just witnessed, we were all in great shock, and looked at each other like we had just seen a ghost. Something peculiar about that night was that the sky had weird lights, it seemed like the dark sky had something spilled over it and made it seem
