“You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren.” Henry Hudson was born in the later part of the 16th century; he had grown up to be an American Explorer. He discovered several rivers and lakes that were named after him. He had four voyages, but two had been unsuccessful. He still today is one of the world’s most famous explorers that has ever lived. He is an elusive person until his first journey because he was most likely a boy at Sea. I chose Henry Hudson because I have interests in explorers, and also, I wanted to learn more about him, and why there are several rivers and lakes named after him. Much of Hudson's birth and early life are mostly unknown, but Hudson is thought to have spent most of his early life at sea. Sources say that he had to of been born in or around 1565; other sources disagree and say that he was born around 1570. Hudson spent a lot of his life looking for different routes to Asia. There was a cause of that though, and he opened up the door to settlement of North America and further exploration, prior to his first journey as a commander in 1607. This allowed the Hudson’s Bay Company to use fur trade along its shores, for more than two centuries. Since it grew powerful enough to influence the present international boundaries and history of Western North America; the Hudson Strait became the entrance for all ships engaged in the historic search for the Northwest Passage. The Hudson Bay isn’t the only landmark named after Henry Hudson, many other features and landmarks are named after him; including the Hudson River, the Henry Hudson Parkway, the Henry Hudson Bridge, and etc. Henry Hudson and his crew appear in books, such as, “Rip Van Winkle,” and a time travel novel named
