Anthem provides the readers with a look into a Dystopian future. The reades examine the government Equality 7-2521 lives in and how it limits his individuality. The reader watch how Prometheus takes up a mold and how he understands himself. Lastly, prometheus discovers why his intelligence is reprimanded by his government. Fighter and Defiance are both films that portray a story of Jewish resistance during the Holocaust. Each of their stories present similarities in their representations of Jewish resistance. For example, they both involve characters that first find the desire to fight from their thirst for vengeance. They both also inadvertently make non-resistors seem less heroic than those who did fight. However, there are also differences and I will mention one; Fighter goes into further depth on establishing the difference between a fighter and a non-fighter by contrasting both of their experiences during the war, and by demonstrating the long term effects of the war on each of them.…
Dystopias first appeared in popular Young Adult literature in 1989 when the graphic novel series V for Vendetta by Alan Moore and David Lloyd was published. This series depicts a totalitarian England with a vigilantly hero who stands up to the government and inspires a rebellion. The first popular young adult dystopian novel was The Giver by Lois Lowry published in 1993. This book is meant for the younger ages in the young adult range, primarily middle school age children. I really liked the movie Defiance. Tuvia Bielski was a very brave leader. He was able to lead not only his brothers, but 1200 other Jews to safety before the end of the war. I found it amazing that in the movie he just happened upon many of the Jews he helped. In all of the accounts I read on him, he was more organized and willing to go out of his way to get the Jews.…
The 1989 movie Glory is a Civil War film based on the history of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment. The movie focuses on one of the first black regiments in the Civil War, which must overcome an enormous amount of adversity during the war. Selma, a film directed by Ava DuVernay shows us Dr. Martin Luther King’s success in fighting all who challenged him in order to give the African American people the right to vote. This film outlines the harsh three-month period of King’s (with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s help) struggle in an attempt to secure what he believes is a basic American right, the right to vote, against extremely violent white supremacist. This was all made much more difficult due to the fact that he demanded his protests be non-violent.
