Introduction
The dynamics of hospital performance are often associated with effective patients’ care and length of stay (LOS). In this case study, the hospital governance is strategically seeking to reduce LOS in the inpatient setting at four of the system 's hospitals. Generally, we will conduct analyses of the data set that have been provided to identify the hospital that is achieving the lowest LOS using descriptive statistics.

Statistical Analysis: Length of Stay
Each hospital in the enterprise has a strategy to reduce the length of stay (LOS) in the inpatient setting. The LOS was monitored over the past twelve months and the mean of each month was collected and presented in the data set (Table 1). It would be difficult to draw conclusion

Hospital C has the lowest mean (3.59) and median (3.56) for LOS out of all four hospitals. Hospital A has the highest mean (4.65) and median (4.71) for LOS. However, trend analysis shows that both Hospital A and Hospital C are trending downward in their LOS while Hospital B is trending upward and Hospital D is only slightly trending upward (Table 2).

The variance measures the dispersion from the mean or how far individual points are from the mean. The SD is the square root of the variance. The CV is a ratio of SD/mean, which allows for comparison of variance between groups even when the means are drastically different (Neutens & Rubinson, 2010). In order to detect the hospital that has the most effect on its LOS, we wanted to see which efforts resulted in the highest difference from the mean over the period of twelve
