Jesus: The Value Of Forgiveness

The dynamics and workings of the cross are the same and haven 't changed. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. We have one altar in the courts of heaven. Just one. That 's all we need. What gave us the idea this dynamic stopped working after we got saved? We still have to humble ourselves and we still have to seek forgiveness. You might ask, "Why do I have to ask forgiveness for the same thing over and over again?" We should ask God for forgiveness everyday for the sins of our sinful nature. We sin every day without realizing it and I’m not saying we are to live with a sin consciousness always thinking we are failures. What I am saying is we may need to ask God to forgive us several times if we are still experiencing guilt, shame and condemnation over the same thing. It’s not that God doesn’t forgive us the first time. The issue is comprehending we are forgiven. We are not beating ourselves up, we are beating the enemy with the truth of God’s love and God 's word. This is really important because this is where the dynamics of "working smarter, not harder" comes into play. What is happening is that God is reinforcing our foundations, causing us to revisit the cracks in the walls of our heart. Religion has a way of sneaking into our lives in small increments until we realize how religious we have become because of "self-righteousness" creeping in instead of God 's righteousness being formed within us. If we have a "once saved always saved" mentality, we will fall into the trap of thinking, "Been there done that." This causes us to not take a serious evaluation of where we are spiritually.
