American Revolutionary War Research Paper

The American Revolutionary war took place between 1775 and 1783. This war, also known as the War of Independence, was fought for the right of the 13 colonies to self-govern against England. There was a miraculous win for the colonies against the most powerful country in the world, they named themselves the United States of America. The war finished after many battles, losses, and suffering; ending through a signing of the Versailles Peace treaty in 1783. The United States of America had finally gained the right of independance. When planning for the war against England, many of the wealthy elite had town meetings which gathered the lower class and upper class. In these town meetings the lower class started to share their grievances with the upperclass. What the upperclass did according to Zinn was an act of dictatorship, they only used the lower class energy to make an opinion that benefited the wealthy elite. In Zinn’s article he states the “mobilization of lower class energy by upper class politicians,[was] for their own purposes.”(Zinn) They abused the trust the lower class was giving to them, and used it for their own benefit leaving the original opinion of the lower class to be unattended. Zinn also states that Tyranny is Tyranny no matter where the location of the dictatorship is, and the cause for the war was to move away from such things, the location changed but the tyranny did not. After the American’s victory, there was discontentment towards the loyalist in the state of New York. Their discontentment rooted from their support towards Great Britain during the war. In New York the family Phillipsburgh had a total of 49,944 acres of land, which was confiscated by the state.(Reubens) The Phillisburgh Manor was taken away from them just because of their beliefs, taking their right of liberty away. Americans fought for separation from tyrannical leaders to live a life of freedom and liberty, but those rights were exactly what they took from the Phllipsburgh Manor. Yet their biggest act of absolute power was not towards their own people but against the people they stole land from, the Native Americans. In a letter from three Seneca Indian leaders, to George Washington, it says ”You told us you could crush us…. as if our want of strength had destroyed our rights….Were the terms dictated to us by your commissioners
