Supervisor On Duty Case Study

Officer Hill behaved in an unprofessional manner and was verbally abusive towards me on two separate occasions: Tuesday, March 1st, 2016, and Monday, March 7th, 2016. In addition, during the second occasion, Officer Hill behaved in a threatening and intimidating manner when I requested the Supervisor On Duty. When asked, Officer Hill refused to provide either his badge number or first name.

I have a U.S. prescription for a Schedule IV medication that costs $800 per month in the U.S., but only $70 per month in Mexico. Without this medication, I cannot work or safely travel alone. I intend to start purchasing this medication in the U.S. as soon as my insurance coverage takes effect, but until then I can only afford to purchase this medication

Upon entering, I got in the first line available. Officer Hill recognized me and singled me out, telling me to leave that officer’s line and come to his station. I did so and immediately told him that I had already spoken with Supervisor Regnava and been approved for entry. Officer Hill asked what I had with me and I answered “Medicine.” Officer Hill mocked my answer and became verbally abusive. I asked for the Supervisor On Duty as well as his name and badge number. He refused to both requests, which I repeated a couple more times before he finally acquiesced. He told me “Stay Here!” so that I would not be privy to his discussion with Supervisor Regnava. Still, I could hear some of the conversation, but not all. Supervisor Regnava informed Officer Hill that I was permitted to enter with my medication. Judging from the tone, I believe Officer Hill was defensive with the Supervisor On Duty, but I don’t know the exact words spoken. When I heard Officer Hill’s angry tone, I stepped to the left so that Supervisor Regnava could see me and said “This is the officer who hassled me last week, I would like his badge number to file a complaint.” Officer Hill then submitted to Supervisor Regnava and thrust the pharmacy bag at me, saying “Go ahead and complain!” I said in reply, “I will. You behaved in a very unprofessional manner.” He was then verbally abusive, saying “No, you behaved in an unprofessional manner!” Standing up for my rights as an American citizen is not unprofessional. Besides, it was Officer Hill who was at work, not me, and expected to conform to CBP professional

Let me first begin by telling you how I ended up finally being admitted to my agency. It was a long process of searching and talking to people whom I hadn’t met before. At the end, I am glad I got into this agency because I did learn several things, and the staff was always willing to answer our questions. It made me want to get up during the morning to go and experience what was happening inside Cameron County Jail. When I was hired on as an Operations Manager for Jani-King years ago, I was fairly unfamiliar with the industry - but I knew I had good relationship skills. The company had gone through 2 operations managers in a 3 week period prior to me starting - and the territory that I was inheriting was full of troubled accounts and angry customers.…

Furthermore, rules and procedures formalize a department and make sure that the officer’s conduct stays consistent and appropriate. Although police officers must strive to abide by all the rules and regulations, it does not always happen that way. Even the most formalized of agencies face discrepancies between their formal policies and informal practices. Departments can have problems with officers that do not abide by implemented policies or simply don’t understand them. Insubordination can be detrimental to a department and the image of law enforcement officers in general.…

As a Memphis Police Officer, you learn very quickly what is the difference between offensive speech and offensive conduct. My first training officer would shout obscenities at me all day in between calls while riding in the squad car and during conversations. Most the obscenities focused on my family or just me in general; some were more colorful than others. There were times that I got frustrated with his actions and thought that it was a little excessive and unprofessional. Eventually, I realized that it was coming from the right place and he wanted me to be a well-rounded officer.…

Lying and deception is one of the most common sins that we see in law enforcement according to our ethic book. This is one of the sins that can easily be made, and most would see as not a very big sin depending on what an officer is lying about. A person of the law should never lie but some examples can be when a civilian reports an officer doing something they shouldn’t of done like speeding or turning their lights on to get through a light just so they don’t have to wait. Now when this gets reported an officer could easily lie and say he or she didn’t do this because there is most likely no evidence of this being done and it’s the officers word against the civilians. Now that is just a simple example of how an officer could lie to a leader or their department.…
