Sara And Tegan

On Saturday, October 28th, performers Tegan and Sara held a concert at the Queen Elizabeth. Although Tegan and Sara have been around since the 90s, they have really come into their own over the last ten years. Many fans consider their album, The Con (2007) to be the first “real” album that the duo produced, not unlike some of bands discussed in class- for example, many fans consider Abbey Road to be the last “real” album The Beatles produced. The performers themselves, Tegan and Sara, are twin sisters from Canada who are openly gay and use their fame to raise money bring awareness to the LGBT+ community. That being said, the audience was pretty diverse that night. Fans ranged from individuals like myself, straight, 20 something female, to …show more content…
In an earlier interview about their music with Brandon Stousy, Sara made a statement about how the two write as individuals, “but believe we should not write about current affairs; we need time to absorb all the different events going on before they can write music” (as cited in Stousy, 2017, p.3). As far as influences go, the sisters have stated that they have drawn on numerous artists for inspiration over the years, including (but not limited to) Green Day, Nirvana, and David Bowie (as cited in Stousy, 2017, p.5). During another interview with Mike Usinger, the duo have also brought up their inspiration behind the lyrics of their songs; love, loss, and moving on, are all things the sisters talk openly about, and how they want to write about what they know (Usinger, …show more content…
I thoroughly enjoyed being able to attend a concert and, on top of enjoying the music, I actually understood the music, the set up, and how the music I was listening to has really been decades in the making. It was eye opening to see how bands that had broken up years before Tegan and Sara were even born can still impact their music in such crucial way, whether people realize it or not. I have always enjoyed listening to music, but it really adds a new element of enjoyment when a person actually understands the music and all the work that went into its

Music is beautiful in many different ways. I may not listen to letlive. on a daily basis, but by the way the crowd was moving and how we were all emotionally involved, they could change lives with their music. We saw many bands that day, some of them being my favorites or soon to be favorites. I feel that you never get to actually get a band until you have seen them live, because once you see how they interact with their own music, you really get to see them for them, and understand why they're doing this.…

The band did a great job performing and the singer was amazing. I really enjoyed singing along and jamming to the music. The singer had a “jazz” voice, which really went well for my favorite piece of the night, Four Women. I also thought it was cool how everyone in the band had a chance to shine with their solos, but my favorite solo was definitely the singer.…

Chico & Rita was released into theatres November 10th, 2010. This is a dazzling love story that began in Havana, Cuba, and ends on American soil; however, it is the journey as a whole that should be admired, not simply the end. Their love story is like no other, and yet it strikes a familiar tone that resonates with William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet since they are portrayed as another pair of star crossed lovers. They are both musicians; he was a pianist and songwriter, while she was a captivating jazz siren. They quickly fall in love, and just as quickly part, then reunite, fight, love, and like that in what seems like an endless cycle until the bittersweet end.…
