In an earlier interview about their music with Brandon Stousy, Sara made a statement about how the two write as individuals, “but believe we should not write about current affairs; we need time to absorb all the different events going on before they can write music” (as cited in Stousy, 2017, p.3). As far as influences go, the sisters have stated that they have drawn on numerous artists for inspiration over the years, including (but not limited to) Green Day, Nirvana, and David Bowie (as cited in Stousy, 2017, p.5). I thoroughly enjoyed being able to attend a concert and, on top of enjoying the music, I actually understood the music, the set up, and how the music I was listening to has really been decades in the making. It was eye opening to see how bands that had broken up years before Tegan and Sara were even born can still impact their music in such crucial way, whether people realize it or not.
