On one occasion the author describes Mr. Kernan as a man who grew up protestant and was converted to Catholicism. (Joyce, 2013) With this being said, Ireland is almost split between the Catholic and the Protestant. Religion is a huge topic in Ireland and during the time we were there, we witnessed signs that showed that church had some influence on the government. As we have learned previously, Ireland has many important potential contexts that might affect a leader. Earlier I asked, how do Contextual Factors Shape the Work of a Leader? To answer this question I think a person must understand that everyone, every organization, and every country has their own set of contextual factors that would affect leadership when dealing with them. Also, a person’s personality or character may naturally fit some context in certain situations which would make that person better off and would more likely be accepted as a leader under those contexts. Going back to where situational leadership was brought up, a point can be made that situational fits very well with contextual leadership. Because so many contextual factors are situational, a lot of time it depends on the context to whether a leader reacts of not. Contextual factors can shape the work of a leader simply because context is the country’s viewpoint or how they feel on certain matters. For instant, in Ireland religion is a huge part of there culture and they most likely would not let a leader be in place that had a different view in the region than the area he or she works. In a sense, leadership is limited by these various contexts.
