If the United States had not dropped the bomb then they had a plan called Operation Downfall. It was mid 1945 when they had planned it and they split it into two parts. One part was operation Olympic and the other Operation Coronet. What they planned to do was a shore raid with a lot of troops and continuous air raids from their bases in China and Korea. If they were to do this attack then they would have expected to lose around 1,000,000 U.S. soldiers in the process along with using a lot of resources to keep the attack going. The Japanese would have defended their land with everything that they had. Doing this attack would have prevented the loss of many Japanese civilians because the bombs would never have been dropped but then it would exhausted the U.S. of a lot of soldiers and resources while doing so. Also if the bomb was never dropped then the United States would have not have shown that they were a world power and their new technology. Also some people say that the U.S. should have only dropped the one bomb and let the Japanese of had more time to decide their surrender.
